Docufilm 'Semidei' celebra 50 anni dei Bronzi di Riace

A 50 years after the discovery of the Riace Bronzes, the docufilm 'Semidei' explores their narrative. Directed by Fabio Mollo and Alessandra Cataleta, and produced by Palomar with backing from the Calabria Region and the Calabria Film Commission Foundation, it premiered at the 20th edition of the Giornate degli autori in the 'Notti veneziane' section of the Venice Film Festival. It made its debut on December 19, 2023, at the Teatro Cilea in Reggio Calabria. The film, running approximately 90 minutes, recounts the finding of the Greek bronze sculptures, dated to 460 and 430 B.C., discovered on August 16, 1972, along the Calabrian coast of Riace. It features locations like the Riace beach, Reggio, and the archaeological museum, interspersed with archival footage and interviews with Stefano Mariottini, archaeologists, experts, and locals. The Bronzes, emblematic of the region, were featured in a humorous advertisement in 2011 and another for their 50th anniversary, as well as an exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia that included a nudist tour with photographs by Luigi Spina.
