DobraVaga Opens in Ljubljana, Selling Art by Weight

exhibition · 2026-05-05

DobraVaga, a new exhibition space in Ljubljana dedicated to young artists, has opened in the city's market center. Designed by renowned architect Jože Plečnik, the venue is an initiative of the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, a public institution founded by the Municipality of Ljubljana in 2009. The space features a unique pricing system: artworks are weighed on a vintage scale and sold per kilogram. In addition to monthly exhibitions, DobraVaga includes a Zine Vitrine offering magazines and DIY workshops, and an Open Studio where artists can work rent-free for three months. Sales revenue is heavily skewed in favor of the artists, aiming to support emerging talent through alternative market logic. Plečnik's nearby house-studio has also reopened after restoration.
