Do ut do 2016: Mendini's Virtual House Hosts Charity Art for Hospice Seràgnoli
The Do ut do charity art project, founded in 2012 by Alessandra Fini and Maurizio Marinelli to support Fondazione Hospice Seràgnoli Onlus, returns with a virtual house designed by Alessandro Mendini. The initiative involves artists donating works without knowing the buyer, while supporters donate blindly for a chance to win a piece by lottery, bypassing market logic. This year's edition, with Dario Fo as godfather, features participants including Mario Cucinella, Flavio Favelli, Marcello Jori, Massimo Giacon, Yumi Karasumaru, and Simone Pellegrini. Each designer created a room based on values of dwelling, such as Cucinella's empathy-themed space. Works will be exhibited at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna in October, followed by shows at MAXXI and MART. The virtual house is navigable via web on computers, tablets, or smartphones, and will be installed at major Italian museums starting with MAMbo. Previous testimonials include Yoko Ono (2012) and Masbedo (2014). The project aims to achieve sustainability for the hospice foundation, which established the Accademia delle Scienze di Medicina Palliativa (ASMEPA) in 2006. A preview event was held on September 15 at Art Defender in Bologna, where Danijel Zezelj created a live painting based on William Blake's The Tyger.
