DLF Architecture Unveils Midtown Jerusalem Master Plan on Historic Jaffa Road

architecture-design · 2026-05-11

DLF Architecture has unveiled Midtown Jerusalem, a 250,000 sqm mixed-use master plan on the former site of the historic Shaare Zedek Hospital along Jaffa Road. Led by Raphael De La Fontaine, the project reconfigures the city's entrance through a layered urban composition combining residential towers, civic programs, commercial spaces, hotels, and public circulation networks. Located near the Chords Bridge, the development sits between downtown, Mahane Yehuda Market, and the Nahlaot neighborhood. The design negotiates between two urban systems: lower buildings follow the irregular geometry of Jerusalem's historic neighborhoods, while towers align with the modern city grid. A three-dimensional circulation system responds to the city's topography, connecting alleys, courtyards, patios, terraces, and piazzas. The residential towers feature subtly shifted and angled facade modules that create changing patterns of light and shadow. The project maintains a dialogue with the historic Shaare Zedek Hospital through proportional relationships and rhythmic alignments. Facades reinterpret Jerusalem limestone using contemporary cladding systems. The development targets LEED Platinum and AAA environmental standards.
