Disverso: graphic novel challenges stereotypes about learning disabilities
The independent comics and graphic journalism publisher Morsi has released Disverso, a graphic book aimed at dismantling stereotypes about Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). Created by Savona-born visual communicator Giada Magini, who has dyslexia, the project originated as her thesis at the Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana (SUPSI). Magini, born in 1999 and co-founder and art director of the creative collective Friday, designed Disverso to "amaze, spread, persuade, inform" through graphic design and a visual interview format that captures the heterogeneous experiences of people with SLD. The book features interviews with subjects aged 11 to 50, emphasizing that learning disorders persist throughout life. Magini received support from sociologist Luca Morici, speech therapist Nicole Berni, and advisor Andrea Bocci. Morsi founder Giulia Pavani served as editorial supervisor. The complex cartotechnical artifact is intended for schools, universities, and will be presented at literature and graphic festivals between May and June.
