District Berlin's 'Revolt She Said' Revisits 1968 Through Decolonial and Feminist Lenses

festival-fair · 2026-04-19

Between September 2018 and January 2019, 'Revolt She Said: Decolonial and Feminist Perspectives on 1968' was showcased by District Berlin in collaboration with Alpha Nova & Galerie Futura. This initiative included performances, talks, concerts, and film screenings, focusing on the artistic narratives of 1968 and bringing attention to often-ignored contributors. Canadian artist Karina Griffith hosted the segment 'Uncracking the Archive,' which highlighted the work of Ghanaian filmmaker King Ampaw. Discussions on archival issues and community engagement were led by panelists Nathalie Anguezomo Mba Bikoro and Natasha A. Kelly, who also worked with Corina S. Kwami and Kelvin Sholar on 'Talking Blues.' A workshop on decolonizing the historiography of 1968 was conducted by Peggy Piesche, while Griffith curated 'Revolt She Felt,' featuring Claudia von Alemann's film. The series promoted an inclusive remembrance of ongoing struggles and feminist art, including Jewish feminist viewpoints.
