publication · 2026-04-27

Disney+ has announced a documentary on Stan Lee, the legendary creator of Spider-Man, Hulk, and the Marvel universe, to mark the centenary of his birth (December 28, 1922). The film is expected in early 2023. A teaser shows Lee in public appearances, TV clips, and cameos, notably his memorable appearance in a bathrobe in Iron Man. Lee, born in New York to Romanian Jewish immigrants, started at Timely Comics (later Marvel) as a copy assistant. His first published work was a text filler in a 1941 Captain America issue. In 1961, as editor-in-chief and president, he co-created the Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby, followed by Thor, Iron Man, the X-Men, Daredevil, and Spider-Man with Kirby and Steve Ditko. Lee died on November 12, 2018, six weeks before his 96th birthday.
