Discontinuo: Apparte Home Gallery's New Residency in Sicily

The young collective Apparte Home Gallery, formed by students from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo, is launching a new project titled Discontinuo. The residency takes place in a private Liberty-style apartment in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Messina, and involves a collaboration with the Collettivo Flock from the same town. The space, inherited by artist Alessio Barchitta, has been cleaned and prepared for the project. The residency began on August 15 and will culminate in an exhibition from September 5 to 7. Participating artists include Alessio Barchitta (working on memory), Cecilia Mentasti (unearthing forgotten elements), Marta Scanu (fragility in sculptures and drawings), and the Collettivo Flock, which presents two projects: Pupi – la nuova storia (blending Sicilian puppet tradition with contemporary art) and OSMOSI (an environmental work with musician Daniele Bogon, aka Alley). Apparte Home Gallery previously hosted Chaos, a solo show by photographer Caterina Quartararo in a private home. The collective emphasizes hospitality and operates outside conventional art spaces, as reflected in their name, which merges 'appartamento' and 'arte' or means 'a parte' (apart). This initiative occurs amid a cultural ferment in Palermo, boosted by Manifesta, the itinerant biennial running until November 4.
