Dior's 70-Year Retrospective Travels to Melbourne for First Overseas Exhibition
For the first time, the complete Dior haute couture collection leaves Paris for an exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. Titled 'The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture,' the show runs from August 27 to November 7. It features over 140 creations from the Christian Dior Couture archive, spanning from the founder's first collection to the work of current artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri. The exhibition traces the house's history from its founding on December 16, 1946, at 30 Avenue Montaigne, through seven artistic directors: Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Dior's revolutionary 'New Look,' coined by Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Carmel Snow, is highlighted alongside iconic designs like the 1953 'tulip' silhouette and the Bar suit. The maison is now part of Bernard Arnault's LVMH group.
