Diogo Aguiar Studio's Modular Wooden House Over The Hills in Porto
Diogo Aguiar Studio has completed 'Casa sobre as colinas' (House Over The Hills), a 200 m² single-family residence in Aguiar de Sousa, Portugal, within the Serras do Porto. The project, completed in 2023, is a modular timber construction oriented to the southwest, designed to echo the distant mountains through a geometric composition of identical volumes with inclined planes in various directions. The architectural program, initially defined as a three-bedroom home distributed across five modules, also includes three independent modules with direct exterior access, offering programmatic flexibility over time. The design team was led by Diogo Aguiar and Daniel Mudrák, with contributions from Adrian Lopéz, Carolina Fiúza, and Christos Gyftopoulos. Structural engineering was provided by PENREA / Rui Nuno Salgueiro, and the general contractor was Grupo Grandys, Somaia. The project was curated by Susanna Moreira and photographed by Fernando Guerra | FG+SG. The house exemplifies a contemporary approach to rural housing, integrating modular construction with the natural landscape.
