Dinosaur Skeleton Henry Sells for €300,000 at Cambi Auction

At Cambi Casa d'Aste's Modern and Contemporary Art auction on December 14, 2021, in Milan, the highlight was the skeleton of an Hypacrosaurus dinosaur nicknamed Henry. Discovered in the early 1900s in the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana, the skeleton measures 330 cm wide and 140 cm tall. It sold for €300,000 to an Italian collector in the room, reflecting growing Italian interest in prehistoric artifacts. The auction achieved a 60% sell-through rate by lot and 100% by value. Before Henry, the contemporary art segment was led by Hans Hartung's T1973-E23 (1973), which sold for €120,000 after a heated bidding war. Other notable sales included Piero Dorazio's Alzabandiera per Federico (1954) at €115,000, Roberto Marcello Baldessari's Riflessi sul paese di Romagna at €83,000, and Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi's Seconda squadra atlantica su New York at €80,000. Works by Alighiero Boetti and Maria Lai also sold above estimate.
