Dinosaur Fossils and Chamberlain Sculpture at Amanita Gallery
At the Amanita gallery in New York, an exhibition titled "Land Before Time: Three Dinosaurs and a Gondola" features three Maiasaura fossils alongside a John Chamberlain sculpture. This display, located on Bowery, will be accessible until August 9. The fossils, acquired from Granada Gallery in Tucson, consist of an 85% complete adolescent, a 68% complete adult, and a 62% complete juvenile, representing the first complete growth cycle of Maiasaura on public view. The Chamberlain sculpture, "Gondola Marianne Moore" (1982), was obtained with assistance from Hauser and Wirth and is positioned on the floor for optimal viewing of the fossils. Amanita director Lauryn-Ashley Vandyke emphasized the exhibition's aim to engage the public in discussions about the ownership of such artifacts. The Maiasaura fossils, excavated from a mudslide in Montana's Two Medicine region since 2019, are available for sale, although prices remain undisclosed. Co-founder Garrett Goldsmith remarked that selling fossils is a lengthier process than selling paintings and that scrutiny of these transactions is increasing.
