Dino Battaglia's unfinished comic completed and exhibited in Città di Castello
The unfinished comic 'Il mostro del Tamigi' by Dino Battaglia has been completed by Corrado Roi and Bepi Vigna, 36 years after the artist's death. The project was initiated by editor Pietro Alligo, who worked with Battaglia's son to find Roi, a long-time Dylan Dog illustrator, to finish the story based on Battaglia's original 1983 script. The completed volume is published by Lo Scarabeo and was presented at the exhibition 'La perfezione del grigio tra sacro e profano' in Palazzo Vitelli a Sant'Egidio, Città di Castello. The show, curated by Alligo and promoted by Associazione Tiferno Comics, features 320 original boards spanning Battaglia's career: from his early work for Corriere dei Piccoli in the 1960s, through literary adaptations of Maupassant, Manzoni, Poe, and Lovecraft, to his 1967 Moby Dick and biblical reinterpretations. The final room focuses on Inspector Coke, a character created in the early 1980s that influenced later Bonelli antiheroes like Dylan Dog. Battaglia's innovative use of the page as a rhythmic, painterly element is highlighted throughout.
