Dimitris Papaioannou's 'Inside' Transforms Rome's La Nuvola into Domestic Stage

exhibition · 2026-04-26

From April 14 to 16, 2024, the Nuvola conference center in Rome, designed by Massimiliano Fuksas, will host Dimitris Papaioannou's video installation 'Inside.' Commissioned by Eur Spa in collaboration with the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the work transforms the congress hall into an intimate theatrical space. Originally created in 2011 and premiered at the Teatro Pallas in Athens for twenty days, 'Inside' featured thirty performers moving through a domestic setting for six consecutive hours, enacting typical homecoming actions with endless combinations and overlaps. The audience could watch as long as they wished, each time witnessing a scene identical in repetition but different in outcome. The installation invites viewers into a dreamlike, introspective, and voyeuristic atmosphere, prompting reflection on human nature, repetition, belonging, and the transience of existence.
