Dima Srouji's Debut Solo Show 'Charts for a Resurrection' at Lawrie Shabibi
In Dubai, Lawrie Shabibi is showcasing the debut solo exhibition of Dima Srouji, a Palestinian artist, architect, and researcher. Titled 'Charts for a Resurrection', it will be on display from May 7 to July 6, 2024. The exhibition is split into two areas: a spacious 'terrain' and a cozy 'chapel'. Visitors will find a mix of installations and archival prints that merge real historical artifacts with imagined archaeological sites. Notably, the terrain features stone-carved windows with colored glass inlay, inspired by the traditional 'Qamariya' technique. Other highlights include grid installations that reflect on Palestine's complex history and the series 'Maternal Labour', honoring women who worked for Western institutions. The chapel offers replicas of archaeological vessels, creating a space for reflection and hope for a liberated Palestine.
