Diller Scofidio + Renfro to Design Aboriginal Art and Cultures Centre in Adelaide
The Aboriginal Art and Cultures Centre (AACC) in Adelaide is set to commence construction in late 2021, with designs crafted by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Woods Bagot. The State Commission has given its approval for the project, which is scheduled to open in 2025 at Lot Fourteen, the site of the former Royal Adelaide Hospital. Spanning 7,000 square meters across three levels, the AACC will feature a ground floor that promotes indoor-outdoor connectivity, galleries for performances on the lower level, and upper galleries offering scenic landscape views. Its facade, reminiscent of Aboriginal shelters, will incorporate a 'nest of columns' for community gatherings. Diller Scofidio + Renfro, under the leadership of Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Charles Renfro, and Benjamin Gilmartin, is also working on the V&A Storehouse in London and Campo Selvatico in Milan.
