Diller Scofidio + Renfro's London Center for Music Design Revealed
Elizabeth Diller, 2019 Jane Drew Prize winner, has unveiled plans for the London Center for Music, a £288 million project by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The design features a tapered, twisted tower with extensive glazing, a 2,000-seat wood-clad concert hall with a central stage, commercial and dining spaces, a new pedestrian plaza, and a top-floor multifunctional event space called The Coda with panoramic views. The site, currently occupied by the Museum of London, will become available once the museum relocates to the Smithfield General Market. Funding relies on private donations. Diller Scofidio + Renfro was commissioned for the concept design in October 2017. The firm is also preparing for the April 5 opening of The Shed in New York, launching with the Soundtrack of America concert series.
