Digital Platform Maps Liliana Cano's Six Decades of Public Art in Sardinia

digital · 2026-04-26

The Archivio Liliana Cano has introduced a new digital platform titled 'Abitare lo spazio,' which showcases more than sixty years of Liliana Cano's (1924–2021) public art throughout Sardinia. This initiative is based on the upcoming publication 'Liliana Cano. Abitare lo spazio. Opere pubbliche in Sardegna' (Ilisso, October 2025) and features an interactive map that spans seventeen municipalities and nearly two hundred artworks, including murals, pictorial cycles, monuments, and site-specific installations. Many pieces are either lost or located in hard-to-reach areas, and the platform seeks to highlight this delicate cultural legacy. Curated by Davide Mariani, the portal also offers four thematic sections, timelines, detailed analyses, and an exclusive video on the mapping process. The project is part of the PNRR e.INS initiative and will be unveiled on February 27, 2026, at Stecca3 – Urban Cultural Hub in Milan during 'VIAVAI VAIVIA. Arte, fotografia e antropologia,' coinciding with World Anthropology Day 2026. Cano, originally from Gorizia and later residing in Sassari, was a prominent Italian artist celebrated for her vivid colors. Notable works include the pictorial cycle at San Lussorio church in Oliena, her interpretations of the Via Crucis, and the 1985 Monumento alla donna.
