Digital fashion collection on Instagram raises funds for water crisis in Africa
Acqua Foundation, a nonprofit focused on water preservation, has partnered with Russian artists Anna Nazaretskaia and Daria Elkina to launch Alteration Space, a digital clothing collection wearable only on Instagram via a special filter. Users can obtain the filter by donating to Amref Health Africa – Italia, which supports water emergency projects in some of the poorest areas of Africa. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the fashion industry's environmental impact, particularly its high water consumption—the second largest globally. Co-founder Gabriele Bonfiglioli explained that the foundation collaborates with Italian and international artists to link art with environmental reflection. Guglielmo Micucci, Director of Amref Health Africa-Italia, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting it offers a way to discuss health in Africa through fashion and strengthen concrete actions in fragile communities in South Sudan. The digital collection is available on the Alteration Space and Acqua Foundation websites and Instagram pages, where supporters can choose their digital outfit and receive a personalized image combining the digital garment with a photo they upload.
