Digital Art Exhibitions Not to Miss in Venice 2024
During the 2024 Venice Biennale, several digital art exhibitions are on view across the lagoon. At Docks Cantieri Cucchini, Sam Spratt presents the physical debut of 'The Monument Game', an interactive NFT-based work that generated nearly $6 million in 2023. At the Malta Pavilion in the Arsenale, Matthew Attard's 'I Will Follow The Ship' combines drawing, cultural heritage, and AI, using eye-tracking and generative AI to create works inspired by Maltese ship graffiti. At Palazzo Donà dalle Rose, Federico Solmi's solo show 'Ship of Fools' features ten video works, paintings, a VR piece, ceramic sculptures, a holographic sculpture, and a new large-scale work referencing Géricault's 'The Raft of the Medusa', critiquing capitalism and celebrity culture. At the Scoletta dell'Arte dei Tiraoro e Battioro, 'Digital Reform' includes works by new media pioneer Shu Lea Cheang (presenting 'UKI Virus Rising'), Andrea Meregalli, and Francesco D'Isa (whose 'Errors' uses text-to-image AI to create glitches), alongside MAOTIK, Funa Ye, and the collective Accurat. At the Chiesetta della Misericordia, Chinese artist Yu Hong presents 'Another One Bites The Dust', a polyptych of ten panels blending Byzantine and Baroque styles with web and social media imagery, curated by Alexandra Munroe in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum New York.
