Digital Archaeological Walk Launches on Rome's Celio Hill

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

CoopCulture has launched Heritage al Celio, a digital archaeological walk on Rome's Celio Hill, funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU through the PNRR and part of the CHANGES project. The initiative offers a five-stop route along the Clivo di Scauro, covering 500 meters and 14 points of interest spanning twenty centuries of history. It integrates over 5,000 archaeological data points using GIS, AI, virtual tours, StoryMaps, and personalized audioguides. The project was developed with Heritage S.r.l., gisAction by TeamDev, and MemorAIz, under the scientific direction of Professor Paolo Carafa of Sapienza University of Rome. Content is accessible via the website passeggiatalcelio.it, an interactive totem at the Case Romane del Celio, and online resources. Three targeted audioguide paths are available: for children, photography enthusiasts, and Romans. The Celio Archaeological Park opened in 2024, including the Museo della Forma Urbis and the Casina del Salvi coffee house, as part of the broader CArMe redevelopment led by Walter Tocci.
