Diego Rivera's grandson donates 157,300 objects to Museo Anahuacalli, reviving artist's cultural vision
Juan Rafael Coronel Rivera has made a significant contribution to Mexico City's Museo Anahuacalli by donating 157,300 items, marking the museum's most substantial acquisition in many years. This extensive collection encompasses ceramics, textiles, wooden artifacts, prints, photographs, archives, and a research library, spanning from the 16th century to the present. Coronel Rivera, who is both a photographer and art historian, dedicated over four decades to curating this collection, which notably does not include pieces by Diego Rivera or Frida Kahlo. The donation will be delivered in phases, beginning with ceramics. Teresa Moya, the museum director, emphasizes its importance in connecting pre-Hispanic heritage with modern art, while plans for new buildings to house the collection are set to commence construction in late 2026 or 2027.
