Dib Bangkok Opens with (In)visible Presence, Blending Global and Thai Art

Dib Bangkok, a new contemporary art museum housed in a former steel warehouse, opened in December 2024 with its inaugural exhibition (In)visible Presence, curated by director Miwako Tezuka from the collection of late founder Petch Osathanugrah, CEO of Osotspa. The show features 80 works by 40 artists, including international names like James Turrell (Straight Up, 2025), Alicja Kwade (Pars pro Toto, 2020), Finnegan Shannon, Sho Shibuya, Marco Fusinato, Hugh Hayden, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Anselm Kiefer, alongside Thai artists such as Pinaree Santipak (Breast Stupa Topiary, 2013), Somboon Hormtientong (The Unheard Voice, 1995), and Montien Boonma (Lotus Sound, 1992/99–2000; Zodiac Houses, 1998–99). The museum spans 7,000 sqm and includes outdoor sculptures, a reflective pond, and a cooling tower. The exhibition, on view through August 3, 2026, explores themes of memory, spirituality, and mortality, with a notable inclusion of nearly a quarter Thai artists, positioning them alongside global figures. The review, published in ArtReview Asia's Spring 2026 issue, notes the museum's potential to serve Thai art history by providing a portal to international contexts rather than a mirror of national identity.
