Diane Lima to curate 39th Panorama da Arte Brasileira at São Paulo Museum of Modern Art in 2026
Diane Lima has been named the curator for the 39th Panorama da Arte Brasileira, set to take place in September 2026 at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art. This biennial exhibition of Brazilian art, held by MAM since 1969, will be titled 'Depois que tudo foi dito' (After It's All Said). Lima's appointment follows her recent role as curator for the Brazilian Pavilion at the upcoming Venice Biennale. Previously, she was part of the curatorial team for the 35th São Paulo Biennial in 2023. Her notable exhibitions include Paulo Nazareth's solo show at Museo Tamayo in Mexico City in 2024 and 'O rio é uma serpente' for the 3rd Frestas Triennial of Arts at SESC São Paulo from 2020 to 2021. The title reflects the work of Black feminist scholar Denise Ferreira da Silva, exploring themes beyond colonial and racial violence in relation to global capital. This edition of the Panorama signifies a return to MAM, which has been under renovation since 2024, and the early iterations of the event greatly enhanced MAM's contemporary art collection.
