Diana Orving's Sustainable Art on View in Milan
Tempesta Gallery in Milan is hosting the first Italian solo exhibition of Swedish artist Diana Orving (born 1985, Stockholm). The works on display were all created during Orving's pregnancy, exploring the physical and psychological transformation of her body, as well as themes of childbirth and parenthood. Orving's background as a fashion designer informs her masterful use of natural fabrics such as cotton, silk, and jute. The creative process is guided by improvisation and intuition. The centerpiece is a large jute textile sculpture titled BECOMING, which fills the gallery entrance from floor to ceiling, resembling a sinuous living organism. Other works are large painted fabric canvases mounted on walls, whose curves invite viewers to approach and immerse themselves. The exhibition is described as welcoming, encouraging deep contemplation of the artist's works.
