Dia Foundation to Renovate and Expand New York Spaces
The Dia Art Foundation has announced a $78 million fundraising campaign to renovate and expand its Chelsea and Beacon locations, reactivate a Soho space, and revitalize two Walter De Maria installations. Led by director Jessica Morgan since 2015, the foundation has already raised $60 million. The Chelsea project will merge two existing spaces on West 22nd Street into a 3,000-square-foot structure with programming areas and a bookstore. Morgan emphasized the artist-centered approach and the reuse of existing spaces. The foundation, founded in 1974, has previously hosted monographic exhibitions of Dorothea Rockburne, Mary Corse, Rita McBride, and Robert Ryman.
