Dhaka Art Summit 2018 expands to nine days with new thematic presentations and research fellows
The Samdani Art Foundation has revealed its intentions for the 2018 Dhaka Art Summit, set to take place at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in partnership with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Diana Campbell Betancourt will reprise her role as Chief Curator, alongside guest curators Simon Castets, Cosmin Costinas, Milovan Farronato, Vali Mahlouji, Mohammed Muniruzzaman, Shabbir Hussain Mustafa, and Devika Singh. Ruxmini Reckvana Q Choudhury, Nivriti Roddam, and Abhijan Gupta will serve as assistant curators. A new segment, Bearing Points, will delve into transcultural histories, with Dr. Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak as the inaugural speaker. A designated Bangladeshi student/group will construct an Education Pavilion. The summit will also showcase a special exhibition dedicated to Novera Ahmed and another on the Asian Art Biennale. More information will be provided in May 2017. The previous summit in 2016 attracted 138,000 local attendees and 800 international visitors.
