DG Estudio transforms fragmented Valencia apartment into light-filled, corridor-free home

architecture-design · 2026-05-25

In Valencia, DG Estudio has renovated Casa ZAM 12, a mid-20th-century apartment, eliminating corridors to create a flexible, light-filled home. The 135-square-meter fourth-floor unit in a 1952 building near Jardín del Túria was originally a maze of partitions blocking natural light. Architects Isabel Roger and Daniel González removed the traditional hallway and introduced three large oak volumes that structure the space without fragmenting it. The first volume organizes the living-dining area with a TV support; the second filters access and houses an open kitchen with custom cabinetry; the third articulates a study area and bedroom distributor. The oak flooring continues throughout to unify the rooms. Ceiling heights vary: the living room and bedrooms retain the original three meters, while passage areas are lowered to conceal ducts without altering original plaster moldings. The design preserves ornamental legacy while introducing contemporary geometry. Material palette includes honest materials: stone-textured porcelain by Inma Bermúdez for Nadis Design in bathrooms and kitchen, and iconic furniture such as Miguel Milá's M68 lamp for Santa & Cole and Andreu World's Reverse table.
