Devín Cabin: A 20 sqm Self-Sufficient Weekend Retreat by Ark-Shelter and ARCHEKTA

architecture-design · 2026-03-23

Ark-Shelter and ARCHEKTA have completed the Devín Cabin, a 20-square-meter weekend house perched above Devín Castle in Slovakia. The project, curated by Hadir Al Koshta, achieves full energy autonomy and uncompromising comfort despite its small footprint. Located at the edge of the Zlatý Roh vineyards, about 3 km above the ECK restaurant, the cabin offers panoramic views stretching from the vineyards to the sunset over the Austrian Alps. The architects—Martin Mikovčák and Viktor Mikovčák, with co-authors Barbora Šimášková, Ondrej Vavro, and Radovan Hnidka—designed the structure as a refuge that provides safety year-round while maintaining a direct, uninterrupted connection with the surrounding landscape. Key contributors include carpenter Mário Cyprich, artist Stanislav Mikovčák, and PV SERVICE PLUS for the Loxone system and solar panels. The client is Cabin Devín. Photography by BoysPlayNice.
