Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2025 Shortlist Announced with Four Global Artists
Four photographers have been shortlisted for the 2025 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, one of photography's most prestigious awards. The exhibition opens at The Photographers' Gallery in London on 7 March 2025, running through 15 June 2025. Cristina De Middel reinterprets Central American migration through Mexico as a heroic journey inspired by Jules Verne. Rahim Fortune documents Black American traditions in Texas with his book Hardtack, referencing Civil War-era bread. Lindokuhle Sobekwa explores memory and loss in South Africa through family photographs of his sister Ziyanda. Tarrah Krajnak restages iconic photographic works to reclaim narratives for women of color. The £30,000 winner will be announced on 15 May 2025, with remaining finalists receiving £5,000 each. Established in 1996, the prize has recognized photographers including Alec Soth, Anastasia Samoylova, Cao Fei, Elad Lassry, and Trevor Paglen. This year's projects address themes of identity, migration, cultural heritage, and memory through documentary, staged, self-portrait, and archival approaches.
