An exhibition of their work will be displayed at The Photographers’ Gallery in London from 3 March to 11 June 2023. The winner, receiving GBP£30,000, will be announced on 11 May 2023, with other finalists awarded GBP£5,000 each. Depoorter was selected for her 2022 exhibition A Chance Encounter at C/O Berlin, exploring photographer-subject relationships. Fosso was recognized for his 2021-22 retrospective at Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, spanning five decades. Jafa was chosen for his 2022 show Live Evil at Luma, Arles, using archives to articulate Black experience. The jury includes Thyago Nogueria of Instituto Moreira Salles in São Paulo, Natalie Herschdorfer of Photo Elysee in Lausanne, artist Mahtab Hussain, Anne-Marie Beckmann of Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Frankfurt/Main, and Brett Rogers of The Photographers’ Gallery as voting chair.
