DesignTalks 2026 explores connections at DesignMarch in Reykjavík

DesignTalks 2026, part of the DesignMarch festival in Iceland, convened international speakers including Stefan Sagmeister, Hjalti Karlsson, and Dorte Mandrup under the theme 'Connections.' Held from 6 to 10 May at Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík, the conference emphasized fostering community and dialogue through design. The event featured interactive audience participation, with speakers and attendees exchanging questions and comments throughout the day. Highlights included Sagmeister, a two-time Grammy-winning designer who has worked with HBO and the Guggenheim Museum; Karlsson, co-founder of New York studio Karlssonwilker; and Mandrup, whose firm recently completed the Exile Museum in Berlin and the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre in Greenland. London-based fashion platform 1 Granary discussed emerging talent and networks, while Reykjavík and London brand Ranra, known for sustainable design, presented material innovation and its collaboration with outdoor brand Salomon. Interdisciplinary collective Terta presented with Elliðaárstöð, a cultural destination in Reykjavík’s Elliðaárdalur. Artist and designer Kristjana S Williams, whose clients include the Vatican and Coldplay, also spoke, as did Nordic collective 1+1+1. The digital platform and festival identity were designed by local studio STRIK.
