Design Miami cancels inaugural Paris edition over security concerns
Design Miami has postponed its first Paris edition, originally scheduled for October alongside Paris+ par Art Basel, due to security concerns. The fair, directed by Italian curator Maria Cristina Didero, was denied permission by police to hold the event at Place de la Concorde, citing proximity to the Élysée Palace and the US Embassy, as well as fears of protests like the Yellow Vests. The 46 exhibitors have been fully refunded. Art Basel expressed regret but confirmed its own preparations for Paris+ are proceeding as planned. The fair will now focus on its December edition in Miami Beach. Didero had recently introduced a unifying theme, 'The Golden Age,' across all three Design Miami fairs, envisioning a renaissance of arts, intellect, and technology through design.
