Design Miami 2019: 15th Edition Focuses on Water Crisis

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The 15th edition of Design Miami is set to take place from December 4 to 8, 2019, with a preview scheduled for December 3. Curated by Aric Chen, this year’s theme is "Elements: Water," which aims to tackle the climate crisis. Virgil Abloh's "Aqua Alta" collection presents furniture designed to appear as if it is underwater. Additionally, twenty-four "time bombs" created by various artists for Lonely Whale and Point Break Foundation draw attention to marine plastic pollution. Collaborations include Lexus and Tao Namura's indoor rain installation. Noteworthy glass exhibits feature Robert Wilson at Cristina Grajales Gallery and Jeff Zimmermann at R & Company. The fair also highlights Eastern design, showcasing Japanese bamboo baskets by Shōkansai Iizuka and contemporary pieces by Takuro Kuwata and Takt Project, alongside two Italian galleries presenting radical architecture and East German-inspired jewelry.
