Design Miami 2017: 33 Galleries, Tech Craft, and Monumental Sculptures

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The 13th edition of Design Miami, running from December 6 to 10 in Miami Beach, features 33 galleries from 14 countries, up from 31 last year. The fair includes 10 independently curated exhibitions in the Curio section. Notable works include monumental sculptures by Philippe Malouin and David Krynauw, and monographic shows on the Bouroullec brothers (Galerie kreo) and Doug and Mike Starn's Big Bambù series (Cristina Grajales Gallery). Italian presence is limited to Erastudio Apartment-Gallery from Milan and Galleria Antonella Villanova from Florence. Trends include CNC fabrication (Mathieu Lehanneur's Ocean Memories at Carpenters Workshop Gallery), a robot by MIT's Self-Assembly Lab (Patrick Parrish Gallery), and a return to wood craftsmanship with American craft (Wendell Castle at R & Company and Friedman Benda) and global traditions (Studio Mumbai at MANIERA, Harry Nuriev's Russian-inspired lamps). Utopian visions span from Maurice-Claude Vidili's 1972 Isolation Sphere (Maison Gerard) to Ma Yansong's MAD Martian Dining Table (Gallery ALL). Collaborations include Airbnb with Muller Van Severen creating an immersive installation.
