Design '68 Exhibition Opens at Milan's Anteo Palazzo del Cinema During Salone del Mobile

The exhibition '68. Oggetti e progetti per un mondo nuovo' curated by Muse (Francesca Molteni) and promoted by Innovation Design District and Mediamond opened at Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan on the eve of the Salone del Mobile. The show features over 50 iconic design pieces from the late 1960s to early 1970s, including Anna Castelli Ferreri's modular units for Kartell (1967), the Sacco chair by Gatti, Paolini, Teodoro (1968), Gaetano Pesce's Up chair for B&B Italia (1969), and Vico Magistretti's Eclisse lamp for Artemide (1965). The exhibition, designed by Franco Raggi, explores how designers experimented with new materials like plastics to create informal, colorful, and practical domestic objects that reflected a radical shift in living spaces and body movement. The show contrasts this democratic, mass-produced design era with today's niche, limited-edition Fuorisalone trends. A concurrent film screening of 'Super design. Italian Radical Design 1965-75' curated by Maria Cristina Didero and Francesca Molteni drew a full house, suggesting public appetite for such utopian design narratives. The event also saw a long queue at Milan's Planetario for a Domus event featuring Michele De Lucchi, Fabio Peri, and Massimo Recalcati.
