Desert X 2025 Opens in Coachella Valley with 11 Site-Specific Installations

On October 13, 2023, the fifth edition of Desert X commenced in California's Coachella Valley, showcasing 11 large-scale public art pieces throughout Palm Springs. Curated by Kaitlin Garcia-Maestas and directed artistically by Neville Wakefield, the lineup features creators such as Alison Saar, Sanford Biggers, Ronald Rael, Sarah Meyohas, Muhannad Shono, Jose Dávila, Kimsooja, and Kapwani Kiwanga. Shono's installation, What Remains, incorporates industrial tarps treated with rainwater, while Rael's Adobe Oasis utilizes 3D-printed mud bricks. At Sunnylands Center & Gardens, Agnes Denes reveals The Living Pyramid. Saar's Soul Service Station includes an interactive gas pump with poetry. Dancers from Jacob Jonas The Company performed around Meyohas's light sculpture. The exhibition will be open until May 11, 2025.
