Desert X 2025 Coachella Valley Curators Reveal Site-Specific Commissions and Desert Dialogues

Curators Neville Wakefield and Kaitlin Garcia-Maestas are set to showcase Desert X 2025, an exhibition highlighting desert landscapes from March 8 to May 11, 2025, in California's Coachella Valley. Their previous collaboration, "A Divided Landscape," laid the groundwork for this event, which prioritizes site-specificity and environmental conversations. The selection of Coachella Valley is due to its cultural significance and ongoing transformations. More than twenty artists will explore issues such as gentrification and environmental justice, with a focus on reparations discussions in Desert Highlands Estate. Featured artists include Jose Dávila, Kimsooja, Ronald Rael, and Cannupa Hanska Luger. Agnes Denes' installation, "The Living Pyramid," incorporates indigenous flora. The curators envision the desert as a canvas for engaging with social and historical narratives.
