The collective Desearch Repartment, founded in 2007, employs neoliberal privilege through the removal of facts, contexts, and responsibilities, using the lexicon of Californian Ideology to undermine its grammar. Their latest project, State of Exceptional Webnation, launched on Kickstarter in October 2017, raised over 12,000 Canadian dollars in weeks. The campaign's promotional phrases—"The future of social media and citizenship," "a new paradigm at the intersection of social media, future and creativity," and "you have the chance to be part of this historic watershed moment"—are deliberately vacuous, evoking heroic scenarios where individuals fulfill their destiny in crisis.
