Dérive à partir de Copi: Group Exhibition at Comédie de Caen
The Comédie de Caen hosts a group exhibition echoing Copi's play 'Eva Peron & L’homosexuel', staged by Marcial Di Fonzo Bo. The show juxtaposes the Copi archives from IMEC with works by contemporary artists, exploring body codification and sexuality. Steven Cohen's video 'Coq / Cock' (2012) shows the artist in drag on the Trocadéro esplanade, tied to a rooster, ending with his arrest. Mika Rottenberg's 'Time and a half' (2003) features a disturbing exotic scene in an Asian fast-food setting. Jean-Luc Verna's drawings introduce death with seductive yet unsettling forms. Romuald Dumas-Jandolo's polished ceramics on a black table create an autonomous fictional space with severed limbs and sexual organs. Lili Reynaud-Dewar's 'My Epidemic' (2016) resonates with Copi's AIDS death, featuring a green curtain and a video of the artist nude, body painted red, dancing in a bourgeois interior. Transparent 'steles' combine body images with silk-printed texts. The exhibition runs at Comédie de Caen.
