Deposito d’Arte Italiana Presente at Artissima 2017
At Artissima 2017, the special project Deposito d’Arte Italiana Presente, curated by Ilaria Bonacossa and Vittoria Martini, reinterprets the historic Deposito d’Arte Presente (1967–1968) by Gian Enzo Sperone. Installed in a 'free zone' away from commercial stands, the deposito celebrates the 50th anniversary of Arte Povera’s theorization and the 23rd edition of the Turin fair (founded in 1994). The display features steel shelves holding works by 128 artists created between 1994 and 2017, arranged chronologically with simple white labels evoking scientific archives. Artists include Chiara Fumai, Francesco Vezzoli, Eva Marisaldi, Diego Marcon, and Alessandra Spranzi. The deposito functions as a partial archive of contemporary art and a self-referential exhibition, less revolutionary than its 1960s predecessor but effective within the fair context.
