Demetrio Stratos Exhibition in Ravenna Explores Vocal Pioneer's Legacy
The exhibition 'Amorevolmente progredire, amorevolmente regredendo. La ricerca vocale di Demetrio Stratos' is currently taking place at Palazzo Malagola in Ravenna and will run until December 22, 2023, with a potential reopening planned for early 2024. Curated by Ermanna Montanari and Enrico Pitozzi, it showcases the archive of Stratos, which was acquired by the Municipality of Ravenna with support from Emilia-Romagna and assistance from his widow, Daniela Ronconi. A seminar was held on December 6, followed by a screening of the documentary 'La voce Stratos' on December 16. Stratos, originally Efstratios Demetriou, was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and passed away in June 1979 in New York at the age of 34 due to leukemia, recognized for his groundbreaking vocal techniques and collaborations with John Cage and Antonin Artaud.
