Della Robbia: Sculpting With Color in Renaissance Florence at MFA Boston
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has opened a major exhibition dedicated to the Della Robbia family, pioneers of glazed terracotta sculpture. Titled "Della Robbia: Sculpting With Color in Renaissance Florence," the show brings together 46 works, six of which traveled from Italy. A highlight is Luca della Robbia's "The Visitation" (1445), from the Church of San Giovanni Fuorcivitas in Pistoia, exhibited in the US for the first time. The exhibition also features a restored lunette, "The Resurrection of Christ" by Giovanni della Robbia, sponsored by the historic Italian wine company Antinori. The show runs in Boston until December 2016, then travels to the National Gallery of Art in Washington from February to June 2017.
