Delano Miami Beach Reopens After $100M Renovation
The Delano hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach has reopened after a six-year closure, following an approximately $100 million renovation. Originally completed in 1947, the Art Deco landmark was reimagined by Ian Schrager and Philippe Starck in the late 1990s as a boutique design temple. The new iteration, now called Delano Miami Beach, features reduced guestrooms (171, down from over 200), a softer loungey aesthetic with bouclé-covered seating, and a new fourth-floor secondary pool with a checkered floor homage to the original chessboard. A members' club occupies the fourth floor, anchored by Mimi Kakushi, a Japanese-inspired restaurant-bar from Dubai designed by Pirajeen Lees. The Rose Bar, an intimate space behind velvet curtains, evokes a 1950s classic feel. Local artist Nina Surel's work is on view, and a lucite piano once owned by Lenny Kravitz is displayed in the lobby. The hotel's exterior, including its distinctive Art Deco fins and sawtooth façade, has been preserved.
