Degas Exhibition to Debut on MSC Cruises Ship

exhibition · 2026-05-04

MSC Cruises will host a Degas exhibition aboard its new ship, the 'Grandiosa', launching November 9 in Hamburg. The show, 'Degas Danse Dessin', features 26 original etchings from The Art Company private collection, previously shown in international museums and galleries. Curated by art historian Marcello Smarrelli, the exhibition is a collaboration between MSC Cruises and THE AIMES, a cultural entertainment company. The works will be displayed in the Atelier Bistro, a space designed with security and climate control for fragile art. Five video installations complement the etchings, exploring Degas's fascination with movement and his role as a precursor to cinema. Smarrelli emphasizes the goal of bringing art to unexpected contexts, reaching thousands of passengers. The initiative reflects a growing trend of art on cruise ships, following the Louvre's partnership with Ponant.
