Deezer reports 44% of new music uploads are AI-generated with fraudulent streaming activity

Deezer has developed technology to detect AI-generated music uploads, which now represent 44% of new content on its platform—approximately 75,000 tracks daily. The company reports that most streams of this AI content come from artificial listeners rather than human users. In a survey where listeners heard three songs including two AI creations, 97% could not distinguish between human-made and AI-generated tracks. Deezer licenses its detection technology to third parties, claiming a false positive rate below 0.01%. While AI music has proliferated in recent years, it often escapes notice by sounding like generic human-produced music. Unlike many streaming services, Deezer explicitly labels AI content.
