Decolonisation in the 2020s: Online Symposium by Afterall, MASP, and UAL
In March 2021, Afterall, a research and publishing organization located at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (UAL), partnered with the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) and Goldsmiths Department of Visual Cultures to host a series of online events. Since 2017, MASP and Afterall have investigated the critique of colonial legacies in contemporary art practices, curation, education, and critical writing. The symposium, called 'Decolonisation in the 2020s,' aims to address significant issues related to decolonization within institutions, in collaboration with UAL's Decolonising Arts Institute and Goldsmiths. Five live discussions occurred every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm GMT, featuring various topics and speakers from 9 to 30 March. Contributions from speakers were published in February on Afterall Art School and the MASP website.
