Decolonisation and Indigeneity: Esche, McMaster, Nanibush in Conversation at University of Toronto

On April 5, 2016, the University of Toronto hosted a discussion called 'Global Indigenous?' with speakers Gerald McMaster, Wanda Nanibush, and Charles Esche. The conversation focused on decolonization and sovereignty, exploring how global and local indigeneity issues intersect. Gerald McMaster is the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Visual Culture and Curatorial Practice at OCAD University. Wanda Nanibush, hailing from Beausoleil First Nation, is an Anishinaabe-kwe curator and community organizer who has worked at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Charles Esche is both the director of the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and a professor at Central Saint Martins. Charles Stankievech, Director of Visual Studies at the Daniels Faculty, moderated the event, which was organized in collaboration with MVS Proseminar and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
