Decadence Now! Exhibition at Galerie Rudolfinum Explores Extreme Visions

The exhibition 'Decadence now!' at Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague, running from September 30, 2010 to January 2, 2011, presents over 140 works exploring themes of extreme self, body, beauty, thought, and life. Subtitled 'The Vision of the Extreme', it is organized into five chapters. The opening section features self-portraits by Robert Mapplethorpe (1980, 1985). Subsequent sections include works by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Catherine Opie, Gottfried Helnwein, Jeff Koons, Andres Serrano, Cindy Sherman, Nobuyoshi Araki, Erwin Olaf, Gilbert & George, Paolo Schmidlin, Martin Gerboc, and Boaz Arad. The exhibition is considered the most significant at Rudolfinum since its opening seventeen years ago. Satellite exhibitions include Joel-Peter Witkin at the House of Art in Brno, Gilbert & George at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, and Josef Bolf and Ivan Pinkava in Plzeň.
