Deborah Paiva Anthology Exhibition at Janaina Torres Galeria Marks Gallery's 10th Anniversary

exhibition · 2026-04-19

From March 7 to April 30, Janaina Torres Galeria in São Paulo will host "Deborah Paiva (1950-2022): Uma Antologia," a solo exhibition curated by Tadeu Chiarelli. This showcase features a selection of works from Paiva's artistic journey, highlighting her investigation of painting as an independent art form. Born in Campo Grande in 1950, her artistic evolution transitioned from large three-dimensional pieces to more reflective works utilizing materials such as sand and encaustic. The exhibition underscores her unique blend of abstraction and figuration, frequently portraying female subjects. Chiarelli's updated critical text reinterprets his 1997 analysis, connecting Paiva's art to Walter Benjamin's concept of "cult value." The gallery, celebrating ten years, is situated at Rua Vitorino Carmilo, 427 Barra Funda, São Paulo, and operates Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
